Carl Strommen (1940) is een Amerikaanscomponist, muziekpedagoog en dirigent.
Levensloop
[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Strommen studeerde eerst Engelse literatuur aan de Long Island Universiteit in Brookville (New York), waar hij zijn Bachelor of Arts behaalde. Aansluitend studeerde hij muziek aan het City College van de (CUNY) in New York, waar hij zijn Master of Music behaalde. Zijn studies voltooide hij aan de befaamde Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
Aanvankelijk was hij dirigent van de harmonieorkesten aan de Mamaroneck Public Schools in Mamaroneck (New York), aan de kust van Long Island. Aansluitend werd hij professor voor orkestratie, compositie en arrangement aan het C.W. Post College van de Long Island Universiteit in Brookville (New York).
Hij is in de Verenigde Staten als een vooraanstaande componist van instrumentale en vocale muziek bekend en vooral zijn pedagogische werken spelen een grote rol in de opleiding van jonge muzikanten. Van de American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) werd hij meerdere malen onderscheiden voor zijn composities. Hij werkt ook als docent op workshops en cursussen voor dirigenten van harmonieorkesten en is een veelgevraagd gast-dirigent.

Carl Strommen
Carlos "Carl" Strommen (born May 7, 1939) is an American composer, music pedagogue and conductor.
Biography
[edit]Strommen first studied English literature at Long Island University in Brookville, New York, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts . Subsequently he studied music at the City College of New York (CUNY) in New York, where he obtained his Master of Music . He completed his studies at the famed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
Initially he was conductor of the wind orchestras at the Mamaroneck Public Schools in Mamaroneck, New York, on the coast of Westchester County. He then became professor for orchestration, composition and arrangement at the C.W. Post College from the Long Island University in Brookville, New York.
He is known in the United States as a leading composer of instrumental and vocal music and especially his pedagogical works play a major role in the training of young musicians. From the 'American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' (ASCAP) he was awarded several times for his compositions. He also works as a teacher at workshops and courses for conductors of wind orchestras and is a sought-after guest conductor.
