Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong
Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong served as the Minister, Attorney General of Ghana and Minister for Justice of Ghana under ex-President John Dramani Mahama. She serves on the International Chamber of Commerce's Court of Arbitration, having been appointed in 2018 for a three year period.
Marietta had her early education at the Tema Parents Association School after which she continued to the St Roses Senior High School at Akwatia in the Eastern Region for her Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Certificates. She proceeded to the University of Ghana, where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree later to the Ghana School of Law, Makola for her Professional Certificate to practice law. Marietta also holds a Post Graduate Degree from the Institute of Social Studies, Hague in the Netherlands.
As a legal practitioner, Marietta has been practicing for over twenty years. She was a senior partner at the renowned law firm, Lithur Brew and Co.
Marietta was a member of the Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the operations of the Ghana@50 Celebrations. She has also served on the board of the Volta River Authority (VRA). Ghanaian Attorney General
Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong (born in Tema), is a Ghanaian female legal practitioner, a former Attorney General of Ghana and Minister for Justice.[1] She was appointed by President Mahama in 2013.[2] She is the second woman to hold this office in Ghana, the first being Betty Mould-Iddrisu. Her tenure as attorney general ended on 6 January 2017. She was appointed to the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 1 July 2018 for a three-year term.[3] She is Honorary Council Member of the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA).[4]
Education
[edit]Marietta started her education at the Tema Parents Association School and continued her secondary education at the St. Rose's Senior High (Akwatia) where she sat for the Ordinary Level Certificate (O level) and Advanced Level Certificate (A level). She later obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana, Legon and her Professional Certificate to practice law from the Ghana School of Law, (Makola) in 1994.[5] After that, she attended the Institute of Social Studies, Hague in the Netherlands, to pursue a graduate diploma in Law and Development.[5&
