    Appreciation, mindfulness, non-violent communication - these terms have been heard a lot recently, especially in the creative industry. Nevertheless, we often find it difficult to deal with criticism from within our own ranks, perhaps because we rarely discuss good design, let alone controversially face to face. So what makes a good poster? When is it worthy of an award and what tips can be given to young creatives?
    A former and the current president of the Best Posters Association, two great poster designers, discussed poster design with Christine Moosmann. Stephan Bundi and Fons Hickmann did not always agree, but this much is certain: the poster is a medium like no other.

    In the course of the Best Posters, which we presented in Grafikmagazin , you, Stephan, as a former president, raised some critical points about competitions and poster design. I had the feeling that we should talk about this, preferably with you, Fons, the current president.

    Today the area between Moritzplatz, Görlitzer Bahnhof, and Landwehrkanal attracts a diverse population of people from all around the world, who want to participate in shaping their own future environment. Graphic designer and professor Fons Hickmann is no exception. Fons lives and works inside a red brick building at Mariannenplatz with an eclectic mix of neighbors that include his agency &#;Fons Hickmann M23&#;.

    Before moving in twelve years ago, the building housed a Turkish mosque. Shortly after moving in, the prayer rugs were replaced with his children&#;s hamster cage. The lower floor was turned into the agency where Fons’ unique conceptual perspective to design, based on his academic background in literature and philosophy, helped develop its strong reputation. It is not all work, however; as and importance is placed on both professional duties and a healthy dose of competitive ping-pong. This highly regarde
