The congregation was reported to have been formed by a splinter group from the main Gateshead Hebrew Congregation (at Redheugh Bridge Road) in about 1904 (or 1902), who disagreed with the Eliezar Adler's somewhat dictatorial leadership of the community and the congregation's ultra-orthodoxy.
